Catching up

An optional bad decision

The Gamble station gives you a tempting upgrade, a visible risk, and permission to walk away.

The scales started with a question: could a shot lead to a choice that feels different from collecting another attack? Gamble captures the ball and presents an upgrade alongside the consequence of losing the roll.

I considered punishing the player for refusing the deal. That started to sound pretty annoying if the ball had landed there accidentally, so Leave is free. The opportunity disappears, the ball returns, and you can get on with the turn.

The station appears through score milestones and chance instead of being available constantly. Its roll has a visible success range and a moving marker that settles on the result. The offers also focus the camera on the affected feature. I want the temptation to come from seeing the reward and thinking 'okay, maybe this time,' rather than from being trapped in a menu with a penalty.
